Nonfiction suggestions

One of my reading goals this year is to read more nonfiction and I have abysmally failed so far. I need suggestions! I am interested in women in history, feminism, memoirs, current events, writing, food, travel.

I have read a handful of memoirs and some feminist essays but I am always caught up in fiction so nonfiction gets pushed to the side.

Also, does Stan Lee have a memoir because I would read the sh*t out of that.

I welcome any and all recommendations! Thank you in advance for your wonderful suggestions.

  1. I liked Stephen King’s “On Writing,” but it’s the only writing related book I’ve read and it’s more of a memoir, I think.

“The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” is good (it’s kind of a biography, sort of, or at least it wants to be one), but I think Rebecca Skloot made it a little too much about her journey as she gathered information, and less about Henrietta and the Lacks family.

I’ve read three celeb memoirs (“Yes Please” by Amy Poehler, “Wildflower” by Drew Barrymore, and “The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo” by Amy Schumer), and I liked all of them, but I think I liked Amy Poehler’s and Amy Schumer’s more.

  2. Ooh I’m a non-fiction addict! I loved Playing Big by Tara Mohr, or anything by Brene Brown. I’m currently reading “Gifts of Imperfections” by her. Of course there’s always “Girlboss” by Sophia Amoruso, and I’ve heard great things about the books by Jen Sincero!
