Quick synopsis: Renegades is about a villain (an Anarchist), who decides to infiltrate the heroes organization (the Renegades) by posing as a good guy hero herself. No one knows her true identity, so she is the best fit from her Anarchists group to pull off this mission. Her character is wonderfully complex and I am excited to see how she is further explored in the sequel.

Superheroes and villains are a classic combination and Meyer does an awesome job of flipping the script a little bit when it comes to their stereotypical dynamics. There is a lot of gray area in the story and characters and that is what was so compelling about it for me. You are kept guessing with each characters motivations and it is a good commentary on how people are not inherently good or evil. We are all composed of a mixture of our actions and thoughts.

I was not expecting the ending at all! So that was pretty damn exciting because sometimes I see twists coming a mile away, like in Warcross. I love being surprised. I have to wait for November 2018 for the sequel now so…

My favorite quote:

“Heroism wasn’t about what you could do, it was about what you did.” (p.169)

P.S. Marissa Meyer is a queen and I love everything she’s written.

Questions for you:

Have you read Renegades? What did you think?

What else have you read by Marissa Meyer?
