Do you get a little thrill when you see your name in print? Or hear it said in a TV show or movie? It can’t just be me. I also have a less common name (Siobhan), so it just makes it that much more exciting. I’m also a little narcissistic so I like seeing my name in things.
So I just discovered a new book with my name in it! The only other times I have seen my name in a book were in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, and Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Characters with my name have also been murdered on TV shows like Castle, which is a bit disturbing, not gonna lie.
Here is how I discovered this wonderful occurrence. I get emails from Shelf Awareness every day/week and sometimes they have new book release reviews in them. I haven’t opened one of these emails in a couple of weeks, but for some reason today I thought to myself “what the heck! Let’s click on the one from yesterday and see what it says”. It just so happened that the one I opened had a book review for a new release and omg it has a character named Siobhan! I actually gasped. Now I feel obligated to read it, but thankfully the story sounds super cool. The book is called The Parker Inheritance by Varian Johnson and you can read more about it here. It is described as The Westing Game meets The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963; I have no idea what the second book is about but I LOVE the Westing Game, so that was a huge selling point. Now I have to wait for March 27th to get my hands on it! It is categorized as a middle grade historical fiction but I don’t care, this book needs to be read, so I can fuel my narcissism.
Questions for you:
Have you ever seen your name in a book?
Has your namesake in a movie or TV show ever been murdered? How did that make you feel?
